Financial Manager

Grindrod Rail Consultancy Services (GRCS) is looking for a suitably qualified and experienced Financial Manager to join their dynamic team. PURPOSE OF THE ROLE The purpose of the role is to manage the full finance functions of the Rail group of entities, with a focus on process improvement, alignment and application of strong internal controls and the provision of accurate and timely information for decision making. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES FINANCIAL REPORTING AND TAX Review and post all manual journal entries Detailed review of trial balances over month-end Analyse two consolidations within the Rail group and make certain that the correct and appropriate group adjustments are passed Prepare a consolidated flash report with meaningful analysis for submission to Group Review and approve entity business unit reports for distribution Review and sign off on monthly balance sheet reconciliations Review monthly computations and seek guidance on more technical matters Ensure that the filing and payment timetable for provisional and annual income taxes is complied with Ensure that the filing and payment timetable for other tax types (VAT, WHT, PAYE etc.) are complied with TREASURY AND WORKING CAPITAL Manage cash flow and funding Ensure customer payments are collected within the agreed credit terms and timely submission of statements to customers Monitor and evaluate customer behaviour and take corrective action where necessary Ensure vendors are paid timeously and within agreed credit terms Review payment proposals and release payments Consider spend behaviour in light of the preferential procurement aspect of the B-BBEE scorecard Review and approve vendor application packs Review and approve purchase orders in terms of an approved LOA Prepare working capital applications for tabling at exco/board meetings

FIXED ASSETS Ensure that fixed asset registers are maintained Co-ordinate and maintain all insurance related requirements and processes Review and approve movements to fixed assets (additions, disposals etc.)

INTERNAL CONTROLS Identify areas of strengths and weaknesses and engage in continuous education and staff development regarding best practices Approve amendments to SAP master data (customers, vendors, spend categories, materials etc.) Consider access rights to roles and transactions on SAP with a view to mitigate risk

BUDGETS AND STRATEGY Assist the management team in informing the business strategy for the forthcoming years Assist the team in preparing accurate and detailed forecasts Consolidate the financial results for the group for use in shareholder presentations Consider the optimal operating and cost structure

LEADERSHIP AND PEOPLE MANAGEMENT Provide leadership and direction to the finance department Ensure that there is clear focus and co-ordination of activities Act as a coach and mentor to staff Encourage team cohesion and timely resolution of issues
